The Best Course to Teach You How to Avoid Errors in Your Writing Is an Individualized Grammar Course Focusing on Your Writing
The most effective training in usage focuses on your writing. Your instructor should evaluate samples of your writing, identify errors you are making, show you how the text should be written, give you examples and assignments to teach you the rules you must learn, and coach you through learning skills you have difficulty with. Your instructor must be knowledgeable about business grammar and how to teach it.
If the Grammar Course is a Survey, It Must Include Pre- and Post-Tests
A survey course has lessons that teach the most important usage rules, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, and word usage. The best grammar course has a pre-test before the grammar class and at the end. It also has a pre-test before each lesson and after the lesson so your instructor can be sure you’ve learned the skills.
The Grammar Course Must Include Examples
Reading about the rules of usage is not enough for a successful grammar course. You must see them in use. The grammar course must have examples of correct use of the grammar rules and the common errors people make.
The Grammar Course Must Include Practice Exercises
To teach the grammar rules and how to apply them, the course must include practice activities with the correct answers. Ideally, the practice activities will be in print so if you aren’t able to use the skill in the practice activities, you will be able to review the materials and try the exercises again. You Must Be Able to Choose a Course That Fits Your Needs
