Proofreading Course

This proofreading course contains clear, thorough explanations of the proofreading process, proofreader's marks, and basic English usage (grammar, punctuation, spelling, word usage, and sentence structure). This proofreading class will take you through a comprehensive review of basic English usage to help you locate writing errors even experienced proofreaders may not notice. As you go through the review of the usage rules, you will proofread for errors to practice identifying misuse of the rules.

The proofreading class has six diagnostic tests. To graduate from the course, you must have achieved an average of at least 80 percent on the six diagnostics. This proofreading course is not recommended for anyone who wants to overcome errors in his or her writing. You should have few usage errors in your writing to be able to graduate from this course. If you have errors in your writing you want to overcome, the Basic Grammar Skills Tutorial is the perfect online proofreading course for you.

The online proofreading class lessons contain clear explanations and many examples. You go at your own pace and submit assignments when you are ready. The instructor evaluates the activities and examinations, comments on skills you have learned and skills you still need to polish, coaches you through learning the skills, and certifies your competence. You receive a graduation certificate for framing at the end of the course.

You will go through the course at your own pace, so you could complete it within a few weeks. However, you have up to four months to complete the course so you can fit the study time into your schedule. You must finish all lessons within the four-month period.
