Syllabus:

The Individualized Writing for Nonnative Speakers of English course teaches businesspeople how to write correctly in English. The course is for people who have a good command of the English language skills, but have basic usage problems resulting from speaking English as a second language. The course is a tutorial in English. Your instructor will evaluate samples of your business writing, identify errors in language, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure, show you how the text should be written, coach you through learning the skills, and evaluate your learning as you progress through the course. The course gives you the focused training in English writing you need to write correct business English.

You will send samples of your English writing to your instructor. Your instructor will read each sample thoroughly, identify skills you need to learn, list the sentences with problems in each area with corrections showing how they should have been written, assign readings from the grammar textbook, answer any questions you have about the English writing skill, have you practice the skill, and give you an online quiz containing sentences from your original writing sample that you must correct in ten minutes to be sure you have learned the skills. You will go through four cycles of this work on your writing skills. You have unlimited access to the instructor in the course.

You may purchase the grammar textbook we use from a bookseller such as Amazon.com. However, the textbook is not required for the course. You will use online training materials in business English writing to learn the skills.

Course Timeline:

You will go through the English writing course at your own pace, so you could complete it within a few weeks. However, you have up to four months to complete the course so you can fit the study time into your schedule. All lessons must be finished within the four-month period.

The BWC140 Business English Writing for Executive Nonnative Speakers of English course is oriented toward executives and managers who are nonnative speakers of English and want the individual attention and focused training that will help them write clear business English writing and polish their language usage. The Business English Writing for Executive Nonnative Speakers of English course contains the same focus on language and grammar the BWC130 Individualized Business English Writing for Nonnative Speakers of English but adds training in how to write clear, concise, well-organized business documents.

Your instructor will evaluate your business English writing by reading samples or your writing that you provide. The instructor will determine what you need to learn to be able to write high-quality business English writing. The course will teach you the business writing skills. This course includes both training in how to structure clear business documents and in business English language usage.

Tuition is discounted from the $640 for the courses taken individually to $595. You have four months to complete each course, so you have a total of eight months to complete both.

BWC350 Writing Effective Workplace Email

The Writing Effective Workplace Email course will teach you the business email writing skills you need to write clear, effective business email that has the impact you want, motivates your readers to respond as you expect, and accomplishes your business objectives. It presents a highly structured approach to business email writing that you can apply to all business email.

You will read the core lessons teaching you how to write professional email that produces results. As you read the lessons, you will write and submit business emails. Your instructor will evaluate the emails, commenting on your business email writing skills.

As with the other Business Writing Center courses, this business email writing course has online lessons like the lectures in a college course. The materials contain many examples and easy-to-understand explanations. The email course is self-pacing, so you decide when to work. You send assignments to your instructor attached to an email. Your instructor will evaluate your business email writing, comment on how well you have learned the writing skills, and coach you through learning any writing skills you haven’t mastered.

BWC110 Basic Grammar Skills Tutorial

The Basic Grammar Skills Tutorial course is for people who have problems in language, grammar, punctuation, spelling, word usage, or sentence structure. This grammar course will help you learn new patterns to replace the old by using your own sentences as examples. The teaching, practice, and tests are based on your own writing as much as possible. This grammar course is highly individualized. The instructor carefully evaluates writing samples and prescribes study and practice based on your unique needs for grammar training. You work on only the specific skills you need to learn, at your own pace. You have unlimited access to the instructor to ask questions about business grammar.

You will send business writing samples to your instructor. Your instructor will read each sample thoroughly, identify business grammar skills you need to learn, list the sentences with problems in each area of business grammar with corrections showing how the sentences should have been written, assign readings from the grammar textbook, answer any questions you have about the business grammar skills, have you practice the skills, and give you an online quiz containing sentences from your original writing sample that you must correct in ten minutes to be sure you have learned the business grammar skills. That comprises a full cycle of analysis of your writing and training in all the business grammar skills we identify that you need. You will go through four full cycles of this work on your business grammar skills.
