The Basic Grammar Essentials course contains an overview of all of the areas of English usage important to business writers. The course begins with a pre-test to show you how much you know about business grammar at the start of the course. It ends with a post-test to show you how much you have learned. Students normally start with pre-test scores of 30% to 50% and end the course with post-test scores of 85% to 95%. Each lesson also has a pre-test and post-test to show you that you have learned the skills. The tests are scored immediately so you can see how you did. Your instructor receives a copy of the test to look over and see whether you need any coaching. For an in-depth grammar survey course with readings from a grammar textbook and pre- and post-tests, enroll in BWC100 Basic Grammar for Business. For a tutorial in which you work with an instructor who identifies the errors you’re making in your writing, teaches you the skills to eliminate the errors, and coaches you through learning the skills, enroll in BWC110 Basic Grammar Skills Tutorial. If you take BWC85 Basic Grammar Essentials with BWC95 Business Writing Essentials, you will have writing training along with the grammar training. The tuition is reduced to $225 for both. It is self-pacing, so you decide when to work. Your instructor will coach you through learning any grammar skills you haven’t mastered. You will purchase the grammar course textbook from Amazon.com. The Business Writing Skills course will teach you how to write clear, well-organized business documents that have the impact you want, motivate your readers to respond as you expect, and accomplish your business objectives. The Business Writing Skills course presents a highly structured approach to writing business documents that you can apply to all your writing, especially email, memos, letters, and reports.
You will read the core lessons teaching you how to write business documents that produce results. As you read the lessons, you will write and submit samples of your business writing. Your instructor will evaluate the documents, commenting on your use of all writing skills as well as those taught specifically in the online Business Writing Skills course.
As with the other Business Writing Center courses, the course has online lessons like the lectures in a college course. The materials contain many examples and easy-to-understand explanations. It is self-pacing, so you decide when to work. You send assignments to your instructor attached to an email. Your instructor will evaluate your writing, comment on how well you have learned the skills, and coach you through learning any skills you haven’t mastered.
BWC110 Basic Grammar Skills Tutorial
The Basic Grammar Skills Tutorial is a grammar course for people who have problems in grammar, punctuation, spelling, word usage, or sentence structure. The grammar course will help you learn new patterns to replace the old by using your own sentences as examples. The teaching, practice, and tests are based on your own writing as much as possible. This grammar course is highly individualized. The instructor carefully evaluates writing samples and prescribes study and practice based on your unique needs. You work on only the specific grammar skills you need to learn, at your own pace. During the grammar course, you have unlimited access to the instructor to ask questions.
You will send writing samples to your instructor. Your instructor will read each sample thoroughly, identify skills you need to learn, list the sentences with problems in each area with corrections showing how they should have been written, assign readings from the grammar textbook, answer any questions you have about the skills, have you practice the skills, and give you an online quiz containing sentences from your original writing sample that you must correct in ten minutes to be sure you have learned the skills. That comprises a full cycle of analysis of your writing and training in all the writing skills we identify that you need. You will go through four full cycles of this work on your writing skills.
